Piano Re-Stringing

Piano Re-Stringing

someone restringing the piano

Piano strings as they get old could start to potentially break obviously that’s going to hamper the performance of the piano. Therefore restringing is at times pretty much the only way to keep a piano operational. There are a ton of questions that we get on this topic. Therefore, we want to make sure that we cover at least a couple of them here. That way you can get a good feel for what you can expect from us in this service.

When Should You Be Thinking About Restringing

Can pianos go a long time without being restrung? Yes, of course, this can happen particularly if conditions in the room are optimal to be able to keep a piano there. Obviously, if strings start breaking apart then restringing is a must and should be a priority. We are talking about older strings though. If you play the piano constantly, 7 or 10 years is usually the lifespan of the strings. If you have not had the piano restrung virtually ever things can get a little more complicated.

We Use Quality Materials In All Of The Services That We Provide

One of the common concerns that people come to us with is that we won’t be using quality strings on their very fine piano. It’s not like we restring every single piano the same way. Of course, we understand that certain instruments are going to require more delicate care if you will. Not that one piano is more important than the next for us though. We are going to be able to give you multiple options to choose from. If you have any doubts about the type of strings that your piano needs go ahead and give us a call we can walk you through your options.

What If The Piano Has Not Been Restrung In A While?

With any piano that has not been tuned or restrung for many years maintenance is going to tend to be a bit more challenging. We would typically recommend that you allow us to restring and tune the piano. Particularly if the strings are many years old, like past a decade old. Will we be able to essentially get all of the pianos that we encounter back to playing shape? We’d like to say that we can help most of them. Yet, we can’t deny the fact that we sometimes encounter pianos that in our view are beyond repair.

What’s The Best Way To Keep Piano String In Good Shape?

For the most part, focusing on just the strings isn’t necessarily an ideal perspective. Instead, make sure that all of the elements within the piano are in good shape. That would be our recommendation. To do that you need to make sure that you keep the piano in a room with a steady mild temperature and a good dose of humidity. Those two elements are key to developing the ideal conditions that pianos tend to thrive in.
